About Mezzanine

Mezzanine is a theater diary app for iOS. Users can log the shows they see, add ratings and reviews, and build wish lists of the plays and musicals they are excited about. Think Letterboxd or GoodReads, but for theater.

  • Users add the shows they see to Mezzanine's theater diary. They can add a rating and a review, and capture every detail about the performance - right down to their seat number.
  • Mezzanine pulls in gorgeous original production art and accurate historical data to bring the theater diary to life.
  • The Mezzanine database includes over 1,500 productions covering 40 years of Broadway and West End history. But users can can also add their own shows - perfect for capturing everything from Broadway mega-hits to high school productions.
  • The program scanner uses image detection to recognize Playbills and add them in an instant. This feature is built using the latest features added to iOS' augmented reality framework, ARKit. Check out a demo below.
  • Users can build lists of shows - perfect for maintaining a Wish List to plan a theater trip or for ranking favorite shows.
  • Users create a Mezzanine account or sign in using their Apple, Facebook, or Google accounts so that their theater diary is always stored securely in the cloud and is synced across all their devices.
  • Mezzanine leverages the latest iOS technologies including dark mode, ARKit, Sign In with Apple, iPad multi-tasking, and context menus.

Mezzanine is available for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 11 or later.

About the Developer

Mezzanine is developed by me, Ben Packard.

Originally from London, England, I moved to the US in 2009 and now live just outside Washington, DC with my partner Ashlee, a dog named Harper, and our collection of musical instruments.

I have been building apps for ten years and visiting the theater for 25. My first show was a birthday trip to see Les Misérables on the West End in 1992.
